Mystery man claims winning Powerball ticket ... in Maryland?
A man at a gas station in Maryland was caught on camera reacting with excitement to a scan of his Powerball ticket, purchased in Arizona. NBC's Tom Costello speaks to the store clerk who checked the man's numbers, and claims he's the mystery co-winner of the $580 million jackpot.

Officials say the winning tickets for the largest Powerball jackpot ever -- $587 million --?were sold in Missouri and Arizona. But on Thursday, a mystery man showed up at a gas station?in Upper Marlboro, Md., claiming to hold one of the big winners.
Surveillance video showed the man --?burly, bald, African-American and clad in a yellow construction suit -- slowly amble up to the counter, where he pulled out some lottery tickets.?
He showed them to the clerk and then repeatedly pumped his arms in excitement after reportedly seeing the numbers match.
According to Kamran Afgan, a cashier on duty at the time,?the man said something along the lines of, "Oh my God," after his numbers matched, and gave Afgan the ticket to hold and examine.
Afgan said the man told him he was from Maryland and a member of the military. It's unclear if he's based in Arizona, but his ticket was an Arizona ticket, Afgan told NBC News. Afgan?said he didn't get a chance to scan the ticket into the lottery machine because the man took it back so quickly.
The entire store was in shock, Afgan said.
Before leaving, the man showed his tickets to two other people in the store who confirmed he had the winner. At that point, the man walked out. But a moment later, he returned, saying he forget to buy gas.
One can understand how he might have been a little distracted.
No winner has come forward yet in Arizona, which means it is possible this Maryland mystery man holds a ticket worth?$293.7 million in his hands.
On Friday, Missouri lottery officials announced that a husband and wife from Dearborn, Mo., were the?lucky ticket holders in that state, and they couldn't be more shocked at their good fortune.
"I called my husband and told him, 'I think I am having a heart attack,'" Cindy Hill, 51, said, according to a Missouri Lottery press release. "I think we just won the lottery!"
She added,?"You know it's the Show Me State, so he said, 'Show me.'"

New York nanny pleads not guilty in deaths of two kids
NEW YORK (Reuters) - A New York nanny accused of the stabbing deaths of two young children pleaded not guilty to murder charges Wednesday in a judicial proceeding conducted in the hospital where the 50-year-old woman is handcuffed to her bed as she recovers from self-inflicted wounds.
Yoselyn Ortega was indicted two weeks ago on two counts each of first- and second-degree murder in the killings of Lucia Krim, 6, and her brother, Leo, who was days shy of his second birthday, in their parents' luxury apartment.
Ortega was under a white blanket, handcuffed to her hospital bed and wearing a blue hair net, according to a pool report of the proceeding at New York-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center. She appeared alert but did not speak during the 10-minute proceeding.
Ortega's attorney, Valerie Van Leer-Greenberg, entered the plea on her behalf, the pool report said. Judge Lewis Bart Stone ordered Ortega held without bail while she undergoes a psychiatric exam. The next court date was set for January 16.
Ortega has been in the hospital since October 25, recovering from what police have described as stab wounds she inflicted on herself at the scene of the murders.
The children's mother, Marina Krim, discovered their bodies in the bathtub when she returned to their Upper West Side home from a swimming lesson with a third child, police have said. Ortega then began to stab herself in front of Krim.
"Yoselyn Ortega is charged with taking the lives of two innocent children who were incapable of defending themselves," New York District Attorney Cyrus Vance said in a statement. "This crime shocked and horrified parents around the city, many of whom entrust their children to the care of others both by necessity and by choice."
Ortega was formally arrested earlier this month after police interviewed her for the first time in her hospital room.
Ortega had been employed by the Krim family for two years, police said. She lived with her son and sister near the Krims' apartment off Central Park and has been a naturalized U.S. citizen for a decade.
Marina Krim had expected to meet Ortega and the two children at a dance studio on the day of the killings. Upon finding the lights out in the apartment, Marina Krim asked the doorman if Ortega had taken the kids out, police said.
Krim then re-entered the home and found the children in the bathroom before encountering Ortega.

New research in The FASEB Journal shows that toxins taken from the venom of sea anemones could be the next wave of insecticides and may even be used to treat pain, cardiac disorders and other conditions
Bethesda, MDAs insects evolve to become resistant to insecticides, the need to develop new ways to control pests grows. A team of scientists from Leuven, Belgium have discovered that the sea anemone's venom harbors several toxins that promise to become a new generation of insecticides that are environmentally friendly and avoid resistance by the insects. Since these toxins disable ion channels that mediate pain and inflammation, they could also spur drug development aimed at pain, cardiac disorders, epilepsy and seizure disorders, and immunological diseases such as multiple sclerosis. This finding is described in the December 2012 issue of The FASEB Journal.
"Are toxins friend or foe? The more we understand these toxins, they are more friend, and less foe," said Jan Tytgat, Ph.D., co-author of this study from the Laboratory of Toxicology at the University of Leuven in Leuven, Belgium. "Toxicology shows us how to exploit Mother Nature's biodiversity for better and healthier living."
To make this discovery, Tytgat and colleagues extracted venom from the sea anemone, Anthopleura elegantissima, and purified three main toxins present in the venom. The toxins were characterized in depth, using biochemical and electrophysiological techniques. This provided insight into their structure, functional role and mechanisms of action. The discovery of these toxins may be considered similar to the discovery of a new drug, as they are compounds which could lead to new insecticides and possibly new treatments for human diseases.
"Because these toxins are aimed at important ion channels present not only in insect cells, they form the leading edge of our new biotechnology. Discovery of this useful marine toxin should provide additional incentive to preserve the fragile coral reefs where anemones thrive," said Gerald Weissmann, M.D., Editor-in-Chief of The FASEB Journal, "But, given current attitudes, I suspect there's a better chance of a sea anemone killing a stink bug than for us to reverse our inroads on ocean life."

Disney, Sears used factory in deadly Bangladesh fire
DHAKA, Bangladesh (AP) ? Clothing and order books found at a Bangladeshi factory where a fire killed 112 people show that it was making clothing for Disney, Wal-Mart, Sears and other Western brands.
Associated Press reporters looked through clothing and documents connected to the retailers Wednesday while police announced the arrests of three factory officials who are suspected of locking in workers who were killed in Saturday's fire.
Piles of children's shorts from Wal-Mart's Faded Glory brand were found among the charred equipment at the Tazreen Fashions Ltd. factory. Blue and off-white shorts from rap star Sean Combs ENYCE label were piled on the floor and stacked in cartons.
Entries in account books in the abandoned factory showed it took orders in recent months to produce clothes for Disney and Sears, despite the factory's spotty safety record.
Calls made to The Walt Disney Company and to Sears Holdings were not immediately returned.
Wal-Mart has said the Tazreen factory was making clothes for the retail giant without its knowledge. Wal-Mart, which had received an audit deeming the factory "high risk" last year, said it had decided to stop doing business with Tazreen, but that a supplier subcontracted work to the factory anyway. Wal-Mart said it stopped working with that supplier on Monday.
Workers who survived the fire say exit doors were locked, fire extinguishers didn't work and managers had told them to go back to work after the fire alarm rang. A fire official has said that far fewer people would have died if there had been just one emergency exit.
Local police chief Habibur Rahman said three factory officials, but not the owner Tazreen Fashions ? were arrested and will be questioned about the fire amid reports that many workers trying to escape the blaze had been locked inside. The officials were arrested Wednesday at their homes in Savar, the Dhaka suburb where the factory is also located.
Rahman did not identify the factory officials or give their job status.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Interior Minister Muhiuddin Khan Alamgir have said arson is suspected. Police say they have not ruled out sabotage.
Local TV reports said about 3,000 garment workers held protests over the fire Wednesday, blocking roads and throwing stones at some factories and vehicles. It was the third straight day of demonstrations, and as they did previously, factories in the area closed to avoid violence.
Police used batons to disperse the protesters, but no injuries were immediately reported.
According to local television, most factories in the area closed after opening briefly because of the protests ? a common tactic to avoid violence.

REID AND DURBIN DON'T WANT GRANDMA TO DIE - Good news for children who don't want their grandparents to spend their golden years head-to-toe in the same bed, "Willy Wonka"-style. The senior Illinois senator and Senate majority whip today asserted that Democrats would not allow cuts to Social Security to be part of any agreement to avert the fiscal cliff. Over the past two years, the White House had made it clear in budget negotiations that it was open to Social Security benefit reductions as part of a larger deal that included tax hikes. Yet on Monday, White House spokesman Jay Carney appeared to back up Durbin's position, suggesting a "separate track" be used to reform Social Security. "We should address the drivers of the deficit, and Social Security currently is not a driver of the deficit," he said. And at a press conference on Tuesday, Reid said that President Barack Obama had told the fiscal cliff negotiators at a recent meeting that "Social Security is not going to be part of this." Despite recent declines in the unemployment rate, the letter notes that more than 12 million Americans are still out of work, and that there are more than three unemployed people for every available job. "In light of this unacceptable jobs situation, it is crucial that we focus on ways to get Americans back to work and that we continue unemployment insurance through 2013," the letter says. "Continuation of unemployment insurance has in the past, though often after much unnecessary delay, passed on a bipartisan basis." Every recession since the 1950s has prompted Congress to give the unemployed extra weeks of benefits, but partisan squabbling over unemployment insurance has been a Christmas tradition during each year of President Barack Obama's first term. Imaging technologies used to solve puzzle of plant architecture: Breakthrough could help optimize capture of sugars for biofuels
ScienceDaily (Nov. 28, 2012) ? Scientists at the U.S. Department of Energy's National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) and the BioEnergy Science Center (BESC) combined different microscopic imaging methods to gain a greater understanding of the relationships between biomass cell wall structure and enzyme digestibility, a breakthrough that could lead to optimizing sugar yields and lowering the costs of making biofuels.
A paper on the breakthrough, "How Does Plant Cell Wall Nanoscale Architecture Correlate with Enzymatic Digestibility?" appears in the current issue of Science Magazine.
Principal Investigator Dr. Shi-You Ding of NREL said the imaging technologies allowed the interdisciplinary team of scientists to view the plants' architecture at scales ranging from millimeter to nanometer, a range of 1 million to one.
That allowed them to learn not just the plant cell wall architecture, but also the localization of the enzymes responsible for deconstruction of the cell wall polymers and the effects of enzyme action on the cell wall.
They didn't have to resort to wet chemistry, which ascertains the molecular makeup of a substance at the cost of destroying the spatial relationships. "The typical way to understand the structure of biomass is to break down all the individual components so they can be analyzed," Ding, a biologist, said. "The problem with that method is that then you don't know where all the components came from. You lose the structural integrity."
That's a crucial loss, because an understanding of how enzymes digest plants requires an understanding of where everything is inside the cell walls.
"Our imaging techniques gave us a deeper understanding of the cell wall structure and the process of enzyme hydrolysis of cell-wall carbohydrate polymers to release simple sugars," Ding said. "That allows us to optimize the process and reduce costs."
Dr. Paul Gilna, the director of the BESC, in which the project was conducted, added: "This work greatly improves our ability to closely examine the mechanisms behind the scientific improvements we have developed, all of which are targeted at enabling the emergence of a sustainable cellulosic biofuels industry." BESC is a multi-institutional Bioenergy Research Center supported by the Office of Biological and Environmental Research in the Department of Energy Office of Science.
The correlative imaging in real time allowed the team to assess the impact of lignin removal on biomass hydrolysis and to see the nanometer-scale changes in cell wall structure. And, that allowed them to see how those changes affected the rate at which enzymes from two different organisms digested the plant cell walls.
The aim in the biofuel industry is to access the plants' polymeric carbohydrate structures without damaging the basic molecules of which the polymers are constructed. "It's more like dis-assembling a building with wrenches, hammers and crowbars to recover re-useable bricks, wiring, pipes and structural steel than it is like using a wrecking ball or explosives," Gilna said. Enzymes, unlike typical harsh chemical catalysts, excel at this relatively gentle disassembly.
The NREL team examined two enzyme systems -- one from a fungus, the other from a bacterium -- both holding promise as biocatalysts for producing sugar intermediates for the biofuels industry.
The particular bacterial enzymes studied are organized through a large scaffolding protein into a multi-enzyme complex from which they make a coordinated attack on the cell walls. The separate fungal enzymes act more individualistically, although the ultimate result is cooperative in that case, as well.
The NREL team found that the easier the access to the cell walls, the better and faster the enzymes will digest the material.
In biofuels production, enzymes are needed to greatly speed up the chemical reactions that break down the biomass during fermentation.
The NREL scientists found that the gummy, poly-aromatic non-sugar lignin in plants interferes with enzymes' ability to access the polysaccharides in the cell wall -- the stuff that both the enzymes and the industry want.
So, they concluded, ideal pre-treatment should focus on getting rid of the lignin while leaving the structural polysaccharides within the cell walls intact, thus leaving a relatively loose, porous native-like structure that allows easy access by the enzymes and rapid digestion, as opposed to pretreatments that remove some of the spongier carbohydrate polymers and allow the remainder to collapse into tighter and less-accessible structures. To continue the building dis-assembly and salvage analogy, removal of the lignin is like unlocking all of the doors in the building so that the workers can get in to pull out re-useable materials, but without collapsing the overall structure so that access is blocked.
By understanding the changing structure of the plant material, scientists can learn more about how enzymes work.
"The enzyme has evolved to deal with the real structure, not the pretreated, artificially decomposed one," Ding said. "So to understand how the enzyme goes about its business, it is really important to know where cell wall components are located, as well as the various modes of enzyme action."
"Then we can optimize the whole process," Ding said. "By observing where cellulase enzymes are localized and the nanostructural changes in the plant cell wall architecture that their actions produce, we hope to suggest rational strategies for more cost effective pretreatments and better enzymes."

Large Hadron Collider May Have Produced New Matter
Let me 'splain. No. There is too much. Let me sum up.
So, when you collide high-energy particles, you get lots of outgoing particles. Sometimes more, sometimes fewer. One thing that you can do to study the outgoing particles is to look at all pairs of tracks in the event (the combinatorics get very large, but you can still do it), and make a histogram of how close together all the pairs were. When you do this, you find that there is a proliferation of tracks that are very close to one another. This is because the outgoing particles tend to come in clusters (we call them "jets"), all moving in approximately the same direction. This happens, more or less, because if you get one outgoing particle with very high energy, but it is an unstable particle, its decay products will tend to be moving in roughly the same direction as the original particle.
Now, you can also do something slightly more sophisticated: instead of just looking at the angle (in any direction) between two tracks, you can use spherical coordinates, and look separately at the angular distance *around* the beamline (azimuth / phi) and the angular distance *from* the beamline (polar angle / theta) (although we actually convert the polar angle into a strange quantity called "pseudorapidity" instead
On the other hand, if you look at events with lots of outgoing tracks (>= 110), you still see the excess of tracks that are close in both azimuth and polar angle from jets, but you also see a "ridge" -- an excess of tracks that have almost exactly the same azimuth as one another, but have very different polar angles. This is unexpected, and unexpected results == SCIENCE!
So, we expect particles to appear tightly clustered together, but what we see (in some events) is more like a flat spray of particles that goes from one beamline to the other, but is very tightly constrained in one azimuthal slice.
Terrible analogy: We expect cities to occupy a roughly circular area of the earth's surface -- tightly constrained in both latitude (polar angle) and longitude (azimuth). This is like finding a planet that has a city that stretches from pole to pole, but only along a single meridian -- tightly constrained in longitude but totally unconstrained in latitude. It's just plain weird.

Halle Berry's ex: I was the victim in fistfight

LOS ANGELES --?Halle Berry's ex-boyfriend Gabriel Aubry on Monday won a restraining order against the actress' current lover, as the two men fought in the Los Angeles courts over who started their Thanksgiving Day brawl.
Releasing photos of himself with a black eye and cuts to his face, Aubry claimed that he was the victim in the November 22 punch-up with Berry's fianc?, French actor Olivier Martinez, in the driveway of her Los Angeles house.?
"I suffered numerous injuries as a result of the attack, including a fractured rib, multiple bruises on my face and a number of cuts which required stitches," Aubry said in court papers, alleging that Martinez had threatened the day before to kill him.?
"It all happened so fast and so suddenly; I did not see Mr Martinez's actions coming and thus I was not ready for it and was not able to defend myself," Aubry wrote.?
Aubry, Martinez, and the Oscar-winning "Monster's Ball" actress have been embroiled for months in a custody fight over Berry's 4-year-old daughter, Nahla. Berry wants to take the daughter she had with Aubry to live with her and Martinez in France, but a Los Angeles judge denied that request earlier in November.?
Aubry claimed in his request for a restraining order on Monday that Martinez told him, "You cost us $3 million," while the French actor punched and kicked him on Nov. 22.?
Aubry, a Canadian model, was arrested last week for battery after the fist fight, and ordered to stay away from Berry, the child, and Martinez.?
Neither man has been yet been formally charged in the case.?

Mickey Mouse's newest adventure? A video game musical

Famed game designer?Warren Spector has a motto???one, he jokes, that might just end up on his gravestone.
That motto is "Fail Gloriously."?
You see, Spector (the mastermind behind beloved?games such as?"Deus Ex" and "System Shock")?is a man who likes to go out on a limb???a ?man who once told me,?"I always try to do something in every game that has never been done before."
In his previous game???"Disney?Epic Mickey"???Spector designed?a game?that not only?changed?depending on the choices the player made, he?created a game in which players could remove things from the world and bring them back again???all by using virtual paint and paint thinner.
Now,?once again, Spector is dabbling in new territory.?His latest game is the?just-launched "Disney?Epic Mickey 2: The Power of Two" (available for?all major game consoles). And this sequel?finds?Spector creating what he calls a?"cooperative story telling game" ...?as well as a?video game musical.
That's right, it's a video?game in which the characters break out into song.
"The bottom line is, if you?re honoring 80 years of Disney?s creative history, then you have to have songs," Spector told me in a recent interview. "You just have to."
?Like the first "Epic Mickey" game, "Epic Mickey 2" is very much a love note to Disney past and present. Once again?it takes Mickey Mouse (and you the player)?to Wasteland???a world where?castoff and forgotten Disney?characters come to vivid life. And like the first "Epic Mickey," this sequel is a game of choice and consequence???about using the power to both create?and to?erase.
But for "Epic Mickey 2," Spector and his team at Junction Point Studios have added some new twists and turns.?Not only does the game feature two-player cooperative gameplay (you and a friend can play Mickey Mouse and Oswald the Lucky Rabbit) but players can now make use of new kinds of ink within this cartoon world???invisible ink?and indelible ink?(the use of which makes Mickey and Oswald invisible to enemies or immune to attacks for a period of time).?
But perhaps most intriguingly, "Epic Mickey 2" finds?characters?breaking into musical numbers throughout the game much like you would see characters do?in any other musical. You can catch the opening musical number???"Help Me/Help You"???in the trailer for the game below.?
Sure, making a?video game that's also a?musical has its ... risks. But one need only look at Disney's own musical history to see why?this makes such?good?sense here. Consider the musical numbers from?"Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs,"?"Cinderella," "Beauty and the Beast" and "The Lion King" just to name a few.
For?"Epic Mickey 2," the original songs were?created by?composer Jim Dooley and songwriter?Mike Himelstein. And these numbers?are oh-so-catchy not to mention downright?amusing. Meanwhile, as in any other musical,?they help advance the plot while?revealing a little something about the characters themselves.?
But it should be said, the musical numbers are not interactive and only take place during the game's?cutscenes. And Spector says that, really, this is only what he hopes to be?the beginning of his foray into?musical gaming.
"I have to be clear about this, I have some probably crazy but certainly grandiose plans for interactive musicals. But those ideas are not part of 'Disney Epic Mickey,'?" Spector tells me. "As much as I?m willing to take crazy risks, the people who fund my studio???that would be Disney???they have other concerns and other interests. And you have to respect that. So what we?re doing here is sticking our virtual toe into virtual water. I just want to test my theory that gamers are going to enjoy songs as part of their gaming experience. Or at least some subset of the gaming audience will."
And it seems Spector?theorized?right. Though early reviews of "Epic Mickey 2" are rather middling, most everyone (this player?included)?love the musical numbers ... and would love to see more.
But it's not just music that he's is dabling in here. Spector says that he also created?"Epic Mickey 2" to explore "cooperative storytelling" in a way it hasn't been explored in video?games before.
"I've had a couple of life-changing moments over the years. One of which happened to be in 1978???the first time I played 'Dungeons and Dragons' and I experienced the power of sitting there with a half dozen of my friends telling a story together," he says. "And sort of in a weird way, the 30 years I?ve been making games have really just been about capturing that feeling again and letting other people experience it."
Spector says that most cooperative games feel, to him, more like a sports team working together to achieve a goal?rather than players working together as they unravel and?partake in a story of their own?making?together.
"Even what I consider to be the best of co-op gameplay is about people playing a specific role to accomplish a specific goal," he says. "It's like capture the flag or prevent the enemy from capturing the flag or kill that thing or defeat that boss.
"The games I like working on are the games that ask you to think about yourself as a human and about what you think is important," he says. "There are boss battles in 'Disney Epic Mickey 2' but it's not about defeating the boss???'I?m going to use my ability and you?re going to use your ability and we?re going to defeat the boss.'?It?s about asking,?'Is it better to befriend that thing or to defeat it?' It's about asking,?'Who are you and what defines a hero?'?"
As two people?play through "Epic Mickey 2" cooperatively together, they will have to confront these questions???and answer them???together. And?"that kind of negotiation doesn't happen in what I call the more sport-oriented kind of co-op games," Spector says.

Climate financing fund will be empty unless Doha talks find solution
OTTAWA - A new report shows that a $100-billion-a-year promise from rich nations ? including Canada ? to help poor countries deal with climate change is still unfunded as of the end of 2012.
And a second fund, meant to jump-start the process, will be out of money by Dec. 31, says a study by the international aid group Oxfam.
Canada has given $400 million a year for the last three years to the latter climate fund that was meant to be a down payment for poor countries to begin the work of cutting emissions and adapting to the inevitable effects of global warming.
But it only drew three years' worth of commitments from donor countries, for a total of $30 billion that will be drained by year's end.
The study shows that much of that money was recycled from other aid programs.
And the larger promise made by rich countries in Copenhagen in 2009 to raise $100 billion a year by 2020 remains in the wind, putting the onus for a solution on world leaders who are going to Doha for climate talks next week.

More than 100 killed in Bangladesh factory fire

Updated at 5:20 a.m. ET: DHAKA, Bangladesh -- More than 100 people were killed as a fire swept through a garment factory on the outskirts of Bangladesh's capital, the chief of the fire brigade said Sunday.
The fire at the nine-story factory in the Ashulia industrial belt started on the ground floor late Saturday and quickly spread, trapping hundreds of workers.
"So far, the confirmed death toll is 109, including nine who died by jumping from the building," Mizanur Rahman, deputy director of the fire brigade, told Reuters.?
However, other sources earlier said the toll could be much higher.?Abu Nayeem Mohammad Shahidullah, director general of the fire brigade, told Reuters 120 bodies had been recovered. It was not clear if his count had been revised.
Fire department Operations Director Maj. Mohammad Mahbub told The Associated Press that?the nine-story factory was operated by Tazreen Fashions.
Witnesses said the workers, mostly women, ran for safety as the fire engulfed the plant, but were unable to come out through narrow exits.
"Many jumped out from the windows and were injured, or died on the spot," said Milon, a resident.?"We are appalled to see the charred bodies coming out of the factory since last night. It was an endless stream."
Mahbub said army soldiers and border guards had been deployed to help police keep the situation under control as thousands of anxious relatives of the factory workers gathered at the scene.?
Bangladesh has around 4,500 garment factories that make clothes for such ?brands as Tesco, Wal-Mart, JC Penney, H&M, Marks & Spencer, Kohl's and Carrefour.
Bangladesh is the world's biggest exporter of clothing after China, with garments making up 80 percent of its $24 billion annual exports.?
But safety standards at the factories are poor and not enforced strictly, causing scores of accidents each year.?
Saturday's fire was the worst in years, and rescuers and police said the death count may surpass any previous toll.?

South Africa: Police kill 7 suspected robbers
JOHANNESBURG (AP) ? Police in South Africa say they shot dead seven suspected robbers and wounded nine others in a botched theft at an armored car company.
Capt. Paul Ramaloko of the South African Police Service said Sunday that officers got a tip that the thieves wanted to rob a Protea Coin depot in Robertville, a suburb west of Johannesburg.
A gunfight began Saturday night as officers tried to arrest the suspects. Ramaloko says no officers were injured in the shooting. He said they recovered firearms from the suspected robbers at the depot.
Violent crime remains common in South Africa, as unemployment remains high and options few for the nation's poor. Mass police shootings often occur as officers confront heavily armed criminal gangs.

Framingham Park & Recreation Department will offer ski or snowboarding lessons beginning in January. The lessons are for children in Grades 4-12 and will take place Sunday mornings at Nashoba Valley Ski Area in Westford.
The fee includes transportation, a 1-hour lesson, and 2-hours of unsupervised
skiing or snowboarding. Bus leaves Bowditch Field at 7:45 a.m. and returns at
1:30 p.m.
Registration begins Dec. 6 for Framingham residents at 9 a.m.
The fee for 6 lessons is $275. First lesson starts Jan. 6. Last lesson is Feb. 10.
Equipment can be rented for an additional $95 at the time of the pre-fit, not at registration.
